[To boldly go where no one wanted to go!]

SPOILER!!SPOILER!!SPOILER!!SPOILER!!SPOILER!!SPOILER!!SPOILER!!SPOILER!!

DC Comics have continued there version of the Star Trek universe. Issue
9 picks up from the end of STIII and goes from there. For the first part, they
remain pretty predictable.

Kirk and crew have one more visit with Spock before leaving Vulcan. Spock is
sounding like the old Spock but is still very confused. The crew then boards
the stolen Klingon ship and head for Regulus I. Kirk evidently sent word to
Carol Marcus that David was dead and wanted to comfort her and have a memorial
service for David. At first Carol rages at Kirk because David followed him to
Genesis and died in some military confrontation. Later, she apologizes and
they act like old friends. The memorial is held in the Genesis chamber inside
the Regulus planetoid (This is different from the STIII novel. The comic said
that the planetoid's magnetic field replaced the need for proto-matter. I'll
let you scientific types argue about that).

Meanwhile, Star Fleet is fully aware of everything that has happened with the
Genesis planet and Kirk. They send Captain Styles and the Excelsior after the
the group with emphasis on getting the Klingon ship.

Now for the unpredictable part. The scene is the Enterprise(!!) orbiting the
Regulus I space station. They receive the Genesis data and promptly blow the
station to atoms (with Carol Marcus aboard). The scene pulls back and it is
the Enterprise from the "Mirror, Mirror" universe. The last panel shows the
bridge crew and everyone (including the bearded Spock) is in their new uniforms
and looking really nasty. The last blurb also gives the hint that they'll be
coming to the Star Trek universe. Pretty interesting stuff.

I wonder if they'll try to have the crew keep the Enterprise from this Mirror
universe? A little remodelling and who would know? Anyway, I find this comic
to be one of the best DC produces now. I'm sure the average trekker would find
it interesting.
