[net.comics] X-men 188

rh@mit-eddie.UUCP (Randy Haskins) (09/02/84)

This finally came in. Lots of interesting things happen.
We finally get a little more of Rachel's story, and it doesn't
look good. Without even worrying about Selene, there are hard
times ahead for the X-men. #200 ought to be something else
(one hopes it'll be as good as 175).

I heard from the guy in the store that the Pini's have extended
Elfquest to 21 issues, so it seems the truth index of the
rumor is going up. But 20 wasn't in yet. They said they
wanted 20 ready for the Con in SF, but maybe since they've
extended the number of issues, that isn't a goal any more.

I have to agree that the wierd-person-name-starting-with-"S"
is getting on my nerves. He is a great artist, however, I
don't think he belongs drawing the New Mutants. It seems
that their recent storylines have purposely gone in a direction
such that they allow him to draw impressionistically. I'm
sorry, but if I want that sort of art, I go to a museum. If
I pick up a comic book, I want a good story that art is
used to put across. The art in a comic should be like
the soundtrack in a movie, it shouldn't draw attention to itself
such that it takes attention away from the story. Ah, well,
maybe he'll move on to something better for him.
