(1) Well, it wasn't *that* far back! Wolverine first appeared in THE INCREDIBLE
HULK #180-181, October & November 1974.

(2) Unfortunately, we really don't *know* that Sabretooth is Logan's father,
since it was never mentioned in the comics themselves. The only reference in any
comic was in IRON FIST #15, in which Iron Fist, while fighting Wolverine, won-
ders if there is any connection between him and Sabretooth (who he had just
fought in #13 or #14). In an interview with, I think, Chris Claremont around
that time, it was mentioned that C&B intended to do an origin of Wolverine that
did reveal that that he was Sabretooth's son. Later, they decided to drop that
in favor of keeping Logan a man of mystery by not revealing his origin at all.
Another idea they had planned was a meeting between the X-Men and the Avengers
(this was while Byrne was also doing the latter book), in which Captain America
stops short after hearing Wolvie speak and says "Colonel Logan?", recognizing
Logan as someone who fought beside him during WWII. If I remember correctly, the
point of this was to indicate that Wolvie's healing factor also slowed down the
normal degeneration of the body, giving him a *very* long life-span.

But, as I said, all this was only revealed in an interview, so it can't be con-
sidered as an official part of the Marvel Mythos.
