Here are some of my opinions on the general quality of a few titles by various companies. These are mainly comics that I haven't heard netters talk about. I did, however, have to submit something about Xavier's gang: X-Men: I find that this comic to be so packed with action, plots, and subplots that I can hardly follow it sometimes. I agree with the recent criticism that Claremont has too much going on right now. It seems that he goes in spurts. In reading about 80 of his old X-men you find lulls for three or four issues and then all hell breaks loose! I disagree with the notion that he has forgotten about some of those dangling plotlines. I listened to him speak at a recent convention and the major charge against him, by the people there, was his tendency to wait too long to tie up plotlines. He did, of course, remember all the loose ends and even said that many would be tied up in the near future. He also mentioned something ominous about Spidey that I don't believe. Elementals: Good stuff! It's hard to believe that a company like Comico could come up with such a good first issue. I thought the introduction to the principles was unique and very interesting. I also think the bad guys were wild and hope that in coming issues they'll explain exactly why they attacked the Elementals. This is so good that I'm tempted to buy other books by Comico, except friends advise me not to waste my money. The Hulk: I looked at myself last week and I couldn't believe it. I was actually buying 'The Hulk' and looking forward to reading it! It's been years since the Hulk has been so interesting, in my opinion. Yeah, the smart hulk was nice and ya gotta feel sorry for Bruce but now the comic is really coming alive! A guy on a horse beating up on the Hulk??!! And then the lowly squire finishing him off??!! The hulk being held by mere chains??!! What's going on? I can't wait till next month! Power Man and Iron Fist: This is a comic that Marvel hasn't brought up to 1984 yet. Major things are happening in every other title. The plots are so complex they read like minor soap operas, but not this one. The stories never last for three issues and by comparison the characters are shallow. This is how all comics were a few years back. Yet, I like it. Don't ask. The New Teen Titans (deluxe): Best comic on the market lately. Certainly the most exciting. Perez and Wolfman? have been building up to this battle for four years, and so far it's as good as I expected. How did Trigon finally claim Raven? Is there no turning back for her? Will Trigon make all of earth look like Hoboken? Tune in next week to find out! Infinity: I bought Infinity Inc. 1-3. I just recently read 4-6. Anybody want to buy 1-3? I don't think they'll ever be worth anything. Flash: I bought a few of these recently because I had read all my others. I probably won't buy any more for a long time. Boooring! Everyone knows the Flash'll get off. Superman gave him a thumbs up by allowing him to stay in the JLA, and Superman is always right, what with his super-judgement. The Flash is good material for a bonfire. Daredevil: At war with Micah Synn. I have a feeling that Daredevil, or the people around him, are going to take some serious lumps from this battle. I've always enjoyed Daredevil, especially when he and Bullseye were going at it in the early 200's. This stuff is decent though. I give it a B-. The New Mutants: Sienkiewicz has to go. I'm sorry, but I don't like the artwork at all. The New Mutants is not the place for this guy, he needs something that is mysterious and occasionally bloody. I have honestly found it harder to understand the stories with his pencils. I have forgotten what the characters look like. It seems like I'm looking at the people through a haze. Claremont likes him, a lot. I guess I'll have to live with it. Thor: I didn't like the artwork at first. I was used to the crisp clean images of whoever was before him. I like it a lot now. I couldn't understand all the praise, now I can. I'm hoping the same will happen with Sienkiewicz. I don't think so. That's all for now. More later Scott Thompson all of earth

On the other hand, you might want to try at least one issue each of Mage and Evangeline. That's all it took to get me hooked on both. If you want more information on The Destroyers from The Elementals you could look at the Villians & Vigilantes supplement "Deathtrap of the Destroyers" which was written by Bill Willingham. Iron Maiden got turned into Chrysalis because of copyright considerations. > Infinity: I bought Infinity Inc. 1-3. I just recently read 4-6. I have to agree with you. I stopped on #3. Like many of DC's ideas, it was an excellent idea but poorly executed. > Flash: I bought a few of these recently because I had read all > my others. The Flash is good material for a bonfire. I agree. I wish they'd find him guilty so they could shoot him and get him out of our misery... > Daredevil: At war with Micah Synn. I have a feeling that ... I think Daredevil's been going steadily downhill since Miller left. I really dislike the Micah Synn storyline because I prefer villains with style and Synn is a boor. But I keep buying it because it may pick up someday and then I'd have to go back and fill in the gaps. I'm waiting to see Kallisto enlist the Kingpin's help against Storm by promising to have the Morlock healer cure Vanessa when she's returned to power.Lots of good plot possibilities there. Maybe they could even drag Miller back to draw the DD/Wolverine teamup - the last one was done badly. > The New Mutants: Sienkiewicz has to go. I'm sorry, but I don't > like the artwork at all. I absolutely agree. I only hope the S-word leaves before the next run-in with the Hellions. Considering his mutilation of Rahne (also due to the Cloak & Dagger serum), I'd hate to see him draw Catseye. His drawings of Warlock remind me of Ralph Steadman's illustrations for Hunter S. I'm doing a catch up of several weeks worth of comics news (due to a tardy purchase of this month's comics); please excuse moi lateness. >A guy on a horse beating up on the Hulk??!! And then the lowly >squire finishing him off??!! The hulk being held by mere chains??!! What's >going on? I can't wait till next month! Yes, what is going on? I haven't bought The Hulk (except for the Big Magazines) for years. Anyone want to volunteer a one-paragraph explanation? >...and Superman is always right, what with his super-judgement. I'm sure we all know people like that (apparently quite a few Kryptonians exist on this planet with that power :-) ). "His super power is to turn into a scotch terrier."
