| Gee, I don't recall that G-S A #4 was all that bad (for those of you
| who don't remember that far back, it featured Mantis' marriage to a
| plant), though it certainly won't go down in the annals of comic book
| history as a Classic. Now SHE-HULK #1 was *really* bad --- in fact, it
| was the worst comic I can remember ever reading until the Dazzler
| graphic novel came along.

Well, I guess it wasn't too bad if you can forgive Heck for making every
character in the thing look like someone else. Especially Mantis, who
was pretty in her earliest incarnations, but clearly showed that she was
of mixed vietnamese/anglo descent. Heck's version had Mantis not only
looking pure vietnamese, but UGLY pure vietnamese. Then again, all his
characters were ugly. He had real problems then.

Oh, and it was usually hard to tell what exactly was going on there,
even worse (in my estimation) than the recent work of Senkiewicz in
New Mutts. And, after consideration, I agree that BS should work
on another comic; the Mutts need a more realistic, linear style to
work effectively. Also, the sequencing in the most recent NM was hard to
follow at first.

Back to GSA#4:
Actually, the story wasn't that bad, just stupid rather than actively
wrecking the characterizations of everyone involved. That was before
Shooter was writing the thing.

Incidentally, has anyone else noticed that some jerk has brought Mantis
back in Defenders? Apparently, as a counter to Moondragon's recently nasty
behaviour. Actually came up with a GOOD! explanation for that behaviour, too!
