i'd like to thank scott for the detail about the capt. marvel story... a lot
of it i'd never heard before.....

and as to some of the other news..... yes, johnny storm has used his nova
blast dozens of times before... and he has gotten extremely good at it over
the years.... he no longer passes out... but neither does he devastate an
entire hemisphere... i don't remember exact issue numbers, but i seem to
remember a couple of episodes against negative zone characters that he used
it, and a couple of times in the old days when attilian was covered by the
black dome....

as to the "old timer" article..... boy that made me feel old.... those guys
are still around, and 2 out of three are still active in the field....
Smith, or Windsor-Smith as he is called these days, is doing the machine
man limited series, as i'm sure you all know, along with guest stints in
Cerebus the aardvark, an article in epic, and portfolios by Shanes & Shanes...
as far as i know, j. buscema is still on conan, a task he was relagated to
in the mid 70's. Adams is working as a professional ad man, and has his own
agency.... he puts out a comic called "Ms. Mystic" occasionally, and does a
cover every now and then... in the late 70's, he did all of the poster, costume
and set designs for a play called Warp that didn't go over too well....

the old timers i;d like to hear about are people like jim steranko, of capt.
america/shield fame... he's the same vintage as these guys, but he dropped
out in the early 70's and hasn't been heard from since except for one graphic
novel in the mid-70's....
the true old-timers are the dead artists for the most part..... wally wood,
lou fine, etc....

Where is Jim Steranko? Still publishing "Prevue" magazine from
his company Supergraphics. This magazine was fromerly
"Mediascene" and before that "Comixscene".
He also did the "Outland" adaptation a few years ago.

Re: Captain Marvel:
I once heard (from jim Shooter at a convention about
5 years ago, I think), that DC has in its files a letter from the
'40's from Marvel (Timely at the time) saying it was all right for
them (actually Fawcett, the publisher at the time) to use the name
"Captain Marvel" despite Marvel/Timely publishing a comic book
called "Marvel Comics" (where the Human Torch and Submariner hung out).
Whether there was any money involved I don't know.
Also, I was under the impression that, as part of the settlement
out-of-court which ended the DC/Fawcett battle, that DC got
the right to use the Fawcett characters, but has to pay a royalty
when they do so. So, they could have published Captain Marvel
starting in 1954, if they had wanted to.
