I'm going to try to post some recent news tomorrow, but I thought I'd mention these recent deaths now. Phil Seuling died on August 21. not too many of you may know who he was, but all of us have been affected by his efforts. He was the man who started the whole direct-distribution system for comics. His other big claim to fame is that he was the organizer for many years of the big New York Comics Cons. Don Newton died August 19 of a heart attack. He was best known for his work at DC, primarily on Captain Marvel, Aquaman, and most recently, Batman. I will greatly miss his work on BATMAN, as his art was the major reason I found BATMAN at all readable. As it was, he had just given up BATMAN to Rick Hoberg in order to pencil INFINITY, INC. The current issue of BATMAN is his last work on that title. I don't know at this point if he got any work done for INFINITY, INC. before his death. Peter Costanza died on June 28. He was one of the Golden Age artists, who formed a studio with C.C. Beck, with whom he worked on Captain Marvel (as well as other Fawcett characters). He later worked on characters for American Comics Group (Nemesis and Magicman --- anybody remember them?), and in the mid-60's, went to DC to work on various Superman Family titles such as JIMMY OLSEN and "Legion of Super-Heroes" in ADVENTURE. --- jayembee (Jerry Boyajian, DEC, Maynard, MA) UUCP: {decvax|ihnp4|allegra|ucbvax|...}!decwrl!dec-rhea!dec-akov68!boyajian ARPA: boyajian%akov68.DEC@DECWRL.ARPA
