[net.comics] Nocturna: Catwoman redux?

afo@pucc-k (Laurie Sefton) (10/07/84)

Has anyone been reading the Batman/Detective line lately?

I've noticed that they appear to be using Nocturna as a Catwoman redux,
starting out as a criminal, but straying towards the amoral line that
Catwoman played along for the last few years. I'm not quite sure whether I
am upset about this or not. Catwoman was/is one of the truly interesting
and strong female character in the comics today. She has been on both
sides of the law, and has a lovely wash of cynicism about her. She also
doesn't have gobs of superpowers (or any at all!), and that forces
character development if you're planning on using her for any length of time.
Then again, Nocturna has the other two women in the book beat hands down
for interest. Vicky Vale just leaves me cold.

Speaking of Batman and friends, what the %$')&#" has happened to Batgirl?
The last I remember, DC said they had big plans and changes in store for her.
I really don't consider her removal from the strip as a big change...

{note: the artwork has been real nifty in the last few, but the backup in
Dec- Green Arrow has a lot to be desired}
