[net.comics] Justice Society of America mini-series

<naw, no warlocks around here. Just superheroes...>

Well, Ijust finished my fourth read-through of the first issue of the
mini-series, and I don't quite know whether to be happy or disappointed.

I'm really glad to see the JSA in real time again. In some (heck, a lot) ways
these characters far surpass the earth-1 variety. This group always appeared
to be more real, without getting the maudlin aspects of the marvel universe.
The little twists in the history always pleased me also.

The premise of the story, the Batman's diary accusing the JSA of being Nazis
and spies, is both real and unreal. Real, because you can glean from the
'Adventure' stories that Bruce Wayne's/Batman's head wasn't quite screwed on
straight the last few years of his life. Unreal, because all the evidence
points to this to be a hoax of some sort by the Wizard. Also, I just can't
see how the government would decide to run after the JSA after all this time,
when great majority of the JSA's actions for the last forty years or so
indicate that 'something' was wrong with the diaries. Then again, if we
take the viewpoint of someone on earth-prime (us), we could see the
relationship between the superheroes showing up, and the supervillians showing
up. We would peobably start to wonder which had caused which.

Technical points: The artwork was good in some spots, mediocre in others.
When something has been in the planning stage for as long as this mini-
series, I would think they could do a better job. The two page spread
showing the Harlequin with three eyes didn't impress me either. The
scenes with the Infinity Inc people (if nothing else, this series will
give you the lowdown on Earth-2)were not well executed. And if Helena
Wayne is so damn tall, why is she dwarfed by the JSA?

Hmm, enough comments for now, I'll have to see what comes down the pike
next month...
