A disadvantage of doing some traveling as part of your job is that you can miss out on the important things in life. While most cities will show CHEERS on Thursday night (yes Rochester NY is THAT civilized) it is difficult to get your weekly fix of comics when you are on the road. (Aside to Mike C of Rochester: I know that Rochester has some excellent comic book stores In fact when I was up there two years ago I was able to fill my CEREBUS collection with quite a few early issues!) Of course the nice thing is that when you get home there are so many GREAT things to read. Using no particular scale (I'm too lazy to get Jerry's scale out and the scale on my piano only goes from 'A' to 'G') here are a few of the comics that I found to be EXCEPTIONAL: CEREBUS 67 OK everyone has gotten a chance to rave about it before I did. Big deal. I think I know who Sim based the new guard on. My clue came in issue 66 when he went "Doo-doo doo-doo checkin' for intruders." Well in an old Bugs Bunny he once had a date with Daisy Mae. At the same time another rabbit (a doltish looking large ugly thing...sort of like Jim Shooter) also had a date with Daisy Mae. While on his way to the house, the other rabbit (Cosgrove?) sang "If I could be with you an hour tonight. doo-doo doo-doo rick-a-tick-a-ticky. OK I may be reaching for it a bit, but any of you others have any great ideas? TEEN TITANS 50 In my declining (reclining?) years I am getting more cynical (and even worse at spelling then I was in my youth!). They advertise that a hero is going to die, and I yawn. A wedding scene and I expect Stan and Jack like the were when Seed and Rue got married. So when I picked up this issue I summoned up my best Clint Eastwood and said: "Go ahead punk. Make me cry." Well it didn't work, but it came a hell of a lot closer then anything I have seen in a long time. It was an excellent tale. I like it when a comic company lets you see the characters as people. I confess I would not appreciate it if TT had 5 character development stories for every fight story, but I do like the mixture they have now. One minor (small) complaint: I thought that the picture that Joe Wilson did for them belonged on black velvet next to a shot of Elvis. Beautiful? Feh! Nice scene between Bats and Dick. EISNER QUARTERY 3 A life force is one of the most exciting things to happen to comics. I have always been facinated in the time of american history known as the depression. I am waiting until Eisner completes this story and then I am going to take the entire work to my father and say "Father, here is what can be produced in the medium known as comic books. Can you truly tell me now that it is just a waste of time." It is a little too late for me to continue (alright, stop applauding). Some other time perhaps. Till then remember: Chuckles the clown is dead. OZ seismo!rlgvax!oz
