From the Nov. 23rd edition of THE COMIC BUYER'S GUIDE: 1) GOOD NEWS Eclipse will be publishing Alan Moore's comic MARVELMAN, which has been appearing in the British comic WARRIOR; and it will be in COLOR. Anyone who has read Jerry Boyajian's enthusiastic reviews of this strip will appreciate this. 2) BAD NEWS (Probably) William Messner-Loeb's JOURNEY will no longer be published by Aardvark-Vanheim. As of press date, it appears Fantagraphics will be publishing it. No reason for the change was offered by either AV or Messner-Loeb. I call this bad news, as I feel that the regularity/printing quality of JOURNEY, easily one of the three finest comics out today, can only go downhill. It is curious, because of any of the writers or artists working for AV these days, I always found Mr. Messner-Loeb the most pleasant and low-key (his letter columns are a delight). 3) MAYBE NEWS John Byrne will be leaving the art and writing chores of ALPHA FLIGHT and begin writing and drawing THE HULK. Bill Mantlo and the entire crew doing the HULK presently will take over Alpha Flight. This is probably for the best, in my opinion; ALPHA FLIGHT has been up there on my lackluster comics list for a long time. Should be interesting.... 4) BAD NEWS (but not much) ZOT #7 will be out a little late this time, as writer/artist Scott McCloud had an emergency appendectomy (sp?), and has been in the hospital for a week. Cat Yrownde (more sp?) says he is recovering nicely, and should be back to work soon. I'm sure we all send our best wishes for a speedy recovery (except he probably isn't on Usenet...) 5) MAYBE NEWS CBS TV has bought the option to turn DNAgents into a TV series. Well, I'm guessing that this never gets any farther than the "options" point.... "Oh, intercourse the penguin!" Moriarty, aka Jeff Meyer John Fluke Mfg. Co., Inc.
