Hmm... a few comments and random ramblings from the new kid in town-- Cheech Wizard 'Suck My Turnip' -- (last gasp eco funnies) **** More vintage (1973) Cheech wizard. The cat (cool, type) in the hat. Blatant sexism, adult (actually rather juvenile) humor, someone primitive drawings in black and white inkings, Vaugn Bode's work is still an underground classic. If you like that stuff (I do, why else would you go into a comic book store? :-) you'll love this. A must for Bode collectors, of course. The Man -- (print mint) ** More vintage Bode (there is, of course, no other type, since Vaughn died a number of years ago)-- not up to some of his more inspired work, but interesting as a view into his more somber work. The basic story is about Cro-magnon and his true love-- his stick (no, not that one-- a spear. This is a CLEAN story). Not nearly as well put together as his other works such as Cheech or Deadbone erotica, but it is still Bode. Cobalt 60 (epic Vol 1 #28) -- *** The second installation of the long awaited Cobalt 60, created (and put aside as entirely too depressing) by vaughn bode, continued to completion by his son Mark and Larry Todd. Well within the flavor of his father, Mark is still not quite up to the level of Vaughn in his prime. It is very good to finally see Cobalt (who was ruthlessly ripped off to become Nekron-99 in Bakshi's 'Wizards') in the environment he was supposed to be. There is a lot of potential being shown, both as a completion of things left undone, and also from Mark as an artist himself. I'm looking forward to both. Groo the Wanderer #1 (Marvel) -- *** Sergio Aragones. Need I say more? (This from a person who would turn on Foul ups, bleeps, and bloopers to see the Aragones animation before the commercials... Groo looks to be a winner for people who like funny things. It can (and hopefully will) get better, but it ain't bad, not bad at all. E-Man #18 --- *** I'd seen E-man before (smelt quest, as a matter of fact), so I picked one up to look. This is why you go into a comic book store when there isn't any Bode. The humor is a lot more subtle and works much better. hilarious is an understatement. Guaranteed to keep you giggling long after the last page... E-Man #22 ---- **** The coming of Captain Koala! Teddy Q. Koala saves the day! A bear after my own heart, with some help from Kid Kanga against the nefarious Marsupial Mama, out to take over the world Koala fur market... If that doesnt' sound ludicrous enough, it barely begins to confuse matters. A definite scream. Well, enough for now (no, there is never enough truly funny material...) chuq -- From behind the bar: Chuq Von Rospach {allegra,cbosgd,decwrl,hplabs,ihnp4,seismo}!nsc!chuqui nsc!chuqui@decwrl.ARPA Deadbone erotica is the prickly panic of forgotten milleniums, it is the moldy billion year madness that creeps deep along the spinal behind of my mind.
