Given the current glut of "deluxe format" comics running rampant
from the houses of Marvel and DC, I thought I should bring the net's
attention to one that I found particularly deserving of the format.
Marvel/Epic's "Moonshadow", by J.M. DeMatteis and John J Muth,
has a story which would not make it in a regular comic, and art which
one would not even THINK of putting on something luke newsprint,
mando, or even Baxter. The paper is glossy and perfect for the
dreamily-painted(?) art.
Without giving too much away, issue one concerns the coming of
a race of aliens who (among other things) pluck people off of
planets for no good reason and store them in a zoo. One of those
people is a tripped-out woman living on a Commune, going by the
name Sunflower... Y'know, I realize that I'm telling the whole
story, which I promised not to do. So, I'll tell ya what.
Buy it and read it if you like, or e-mail me for more info. I'll
tell the story individually to anyone who wants to listen.
Now a question: Send replies to li'l ol me, and I'll post,
unless you are really adamant: What comics should NOT be "deluxe"
format? I know that there are books that just don't seem worth
the extra 50 cents or so... I'll nominate "Vigilante" for
starters. This book should be non-CCA, I admit, but I'd be
just as happy (and I think that I'd lose very little in the art)
if it were on mando for $0.75. But then again, whaty do I know?
Humbly submitted,
Martin M.
