[net.comics] Marv Wolfman leaves DC

According to the April issue of the Comics Journal, Marv Wolfman has
returned to Marvel. This is a major loss for DC, not only because he
was their most popular writer, but because he leaves the Crisis on Infinite
Earths unfinished, and all of the standard DC characters destroyed by anti-
matter. While notes for the next few issues of the Titans books were found
in his desk, it appears that he never had any plans to save the DC universe.
Rumor has it that he has been paid by Marvel for the past years to infiltrate
DC, which explains the phenomenal realism in the Terra plot in TNTT.

As things stand now, after July, DC will have to cancel all comics that take
place in Earth 1 or Earth 2, unless they are willin ignore their
highly praised Crisis series. Chris Claremont has reportedly been offered
a six-figure salary to plot DC out of the mess, but is demanding that DC
recall Tales of The Teen Titans #55, where Marv put in a derogatory reference
to resurrecting Terra "like a phoenix from the ashes." Due to the
difficulties of recalling a million comic books, and Marvel's willingness
to match any offers from DC, this seems unlikely.

One possible out is the earlier declaration that certain titles are outside
the multiverse. Thus, by tying in the 12-issue maxiseries, the Oz-Wonderland
Secret Wars with the regular issues, they will establish that all their
magazines are not on Earth 1 or Earth 2, and were not destroyed by Dark
Wolfman. Look for Nightwing to dump Kory for Alice or the Red Queen.
Since DC is owned by Warner, look for the entry of at least one Warner
Brothers hero (Bugs Bunny? Sylverster?) oin the non-multiverse JLA. This
is a preemptive response by Jeannete Kahn to the corporate voices at Warner
who don't understand the problem with continuity, and have threatened to
replace her with Jim "Continuity?-I-Don't-Care-About-Characterization!"
Shooter.

Another suggestion, attributed to Dick "no-more-good-afternoons" Gordiano is
to launch a series along the lines of, "What If The World Didn't End, And
Everyone Lived Happily Ever After, Except Braniac Attacked Superman." He
admits that the idea needs more thought.

And who said Comics weren't exciting?
