REFERENCES: <80@cadtec.UUCP> Secret bores II may be inept and poorly written and drawn and have TERRIBLE continuity but ... Chris Clarmont makes very effective use of the Secret Bores background in issue 196. This is the best Xmen I've seen in quite a while. In this issue, Chris develops multiple characters and spins out his famous subplots in a highly professional manner. I especially liked Nightcrawler's confession and the Kitty/Wolverine on the steps scene. No Morlocks, no Evil Mutants, just the plain ole Xmen. And Magneto comes into his own in a scene only he could play - power now tempered by wisdom. Not to give anything away, but by the end of the issue, it is pretty clear that in time Rachel will gain all the power her mother had, and hopefully wield it with greater maturity. In case nobody has noticed, the Xmen are now just about as powerful as they ever were, and probably could take the avengers. Any group that can field Mags, Rachel, and Rogue - any one of which could have a solid go at the avengers by themselves - is a group to be reckoned with. I hope Rogue's recent battle with Nimrod shows why she is one of the most powerful, dangerous women in comics - as well as one of the sexiest and most interesting.
