hey guys, i actually like the concept of this one. the story has sort of been lurking in the back of everyone's minds for years, and marvel just happened to have a reality close enough to pull it off around... now, granted, i think they went a bit far in the dc rip-off vein (further than the characters originally started out)... argonite??? utopia island??? still, princess powers boyfriend was a nice touch... the thing that really got me was that when the squad first appeared, they were a bunch of super-villans that had banded together to rob better (a la earth 3)... the next time you see them, they were still together and employed by the govt as mercenaries (the govt was corrupt, and run by nelson rockafeller)... now we see them as "concerned citizens"???? oh,well... suspension of disbelief and all that stuff.... In answer to Jimmy Chen's question, the Squadron Supreme (S2) owas tied up witgh some stories involving the Serpent Crown. There was an Aven- gers story, and more important, a Defenders story that was the prequel to the Limited Series. The "rip-off" of the JLA "just happened." It seemed to evolve rather than starting out deliberatly, but there were interesting similarities and differences. That's okay, however, since the story's kind of cute. I like such touches as Arcanna/Zatanna as married with kids (and a cat named "Crowley"); far more friendly than in the DC universe where there are few married couples (how I wish Bruce Wayne would tie the knot with Selina Kyle in the DC universe and settle down to raise a few bittens). However, there are at least 11 more issues so that the Marvel scripters can mess it up if they've a mind to. Stee Kallis, Jr.

Mark Modrall (or is it mark modrall?) says about the Squadron Supreme: >> the thing that really got me was that when the squad first appeared, >> they were a bunch of super-villans that had banded together to rob better >> (a la earth 3)... the next time you see them, they were still together >> and employed by the govt as mercenaries (the govt was corrupt, and run by >> nelson rockafeller)... What first appeared back in the Avengers was the Squadron Sinister (evil), which lives on regular Marvel-Earth. They were created by the Grandmaster as an imitation of the Squadron Supreme (good guys) who live on this other Earth where Nelson Rockefeller was president. Of course, we didn't know this at the time... -Jack Applin Master of Time, Space, Betsy, & Phoebe {hplabs,csu-cs,hp-pcd,nwuxd}!hp-dcd!jack
