[net.comics] Rest in Peace, Kara; Crisis 1-7

evan@petfe.UUCP (Evan Marcus) (06/22/85)

Finally got hold of the first 7 of Crisis's. In a word: AMAZING! I have
never enjoyed a set of comic books so much in my life! They are killing
of trillions of people and doing with such humanity and reality that you have
to love it! The humor is amazing! Killer Frost and Firestorm are a riot!
Some of the throwaway lines are hilarious. And the artwork?!? WOW! In
#6 or #7 there is a 2 page spread where The Harbinger, Pariah, and Alex are
explaining things to Earth-1 and 2 heroes. If you look at the faces, there
are hundreds of recognizable characters, some of whom we haven't seen in
years (Solomon Grundy?!?).

As for the individual characters, Pariah is wonderful. You can really feel
sorry for what he has to go through; not to say that he doesn't deserve it,
though. Poor Flash! The crap DC is putting him through!! It was suggested
that it's a sort of poetic justice, since Flash is the one who got the whole
Multi-verse thing started in the first place!

And Supergirl...I have to admit I got all choked up when she died. It was
no surprise when she went, but that doesn't make it any easier (Remember
Henry Blake?). She went out like a hero. And when they switched back to
Earth for the tributes, I was more choked up, as well as surprised, since I
had forgotten Earth-1 was still OK.

I can't wait for the rest of the series. Then, who knows, maybe I'll go back
and start buying them regularly again. Who says comics are just for kids?
I'm 23.

I'm really surprised that this doesn't dominate the net.comics discussions
completely!

P.S. Any predictions as to who makes it and who doesn't? (Obviously
Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are relatively safe. Anyone else?)
