The only Avenger foe I can think of to classify as the perfect match up
is KANG THE CONQUEROR! He is an excellent villian an coupled with his time
travel ability he is their most dangerous foe. He can be hiding anywhere,
anytime just waiting to strike.
This is why I was very upset when John Byrne decided to have Kang come
from an alternate world's future, i.e. the one Reed Richards' father is on.
I hated this idea when it came out and I still hate it. I would much rather
have the uncertainty of Kang being a relative of Doctor Doom than the
certainty of him being a relative of Reed Richards.
To see Kang at his best read Avengers 129 and Giant Size Avengers #2.
He is defeated in his search for the Celestial Madonna. He turns around and
tries again in Avengers 131-132 and Giant Size Avengers #3. Defeated again
he has the daring to try again in Giant Size Avengers #4. Isn't time travel
wonderful?
