Well, we've all been discussing how funny some of the comics out lately have been. There's AMBUSH BUG and STIG'S INFERNO and MEGATON MAN and KELVIN MACE and GROO and others... however, nothing in the last 10 years ever made me laugh as hard as Jim Engal & Chuck Fiala's Fandom Confidential, which ran for about 4 to 5 years in THE COMIC READER was the supreme effort. Like Marvel's FUMETTI, each monthly episode contained Jim & Chuck in six photographs, with word balloons and pictures drawn in; unlike FUMETTI, it was funny. Very funny. I remember once, when I was home from college over Christmas break, Mom running into my room because a huge crash had resounded from that general direction. This was because I had fallen out of bed. THIS was because the fake letter to Marvel Fanboys from Jim Shooter Chuck was reading had me laughing so hard I had forgotton where I was, not to mention such mundane matters as breathing. Last year, a good subsection of their stuff was reprinted in a Kitchen Sink publication, with six new pages including some stuff by John Byrne. Great stuff. Well, FC is back (I stopped reading COMICS READER once it left), for one episode, with just Jim (he refers to Chuck as his "late" partner; however, I saw Chuck in a fan photo from last week anyway -- what's going on?). It's in this week's (August 16th cover date) issue of The Comic Buyer's Guide, featuring Jim, Don & Maggie Thompson, the Krause publication staff, and tons of Indpendent Type Comics People (no, not Will Eisner -- but he's there in Spirit :-) (Ouch! I'm sorry, I'm sorry...)). Maybe if enough of us write in, we could get Jim to continue publishing this in CBG! Maybe if ALL of us write in, we can raise Chuck from the dead and have him in it too!
