<--> I just finished reading Incredible Hulk #314 (story and pencils by John Byrne) and I must say I was impressed. I've never been a regular reader of the Hulk though I am somewhat familiar with the villains and characters in the book. My biggest complaint with the Hulk has always been that he's just too darn strong. "The madder hulk gets, the stronger hulk gets" may have been a convenient way to vanquish his enemies over the years, but it rarely made for an interesting story. Maybe though, given other good plots and situations, the hulk's unstoppable strength could still be an element of GOOD stories. I look to Byrne's abilities to provide this. I hope he can do for the Hulk what Simonson did for Thor. Reading this one may think that story is more important to me than art. It isn't. Good storytelling can however make a wonderfully drawn comic a truly fantastic all-around comic--one that I look forward to every month (like Swamp Thing). The art in this initial Byrne issue is very good. The sense of movement and raw power is in nearly every panel showing the behemoth. Sure it's been done before, but what's wrong with doing it again! I appreciate the technical slant and believability that Byrne brings to his treatment of the Fantastic Four, and I look for similar good things here. If I were to rate this book on the Mad Armenian Scale, I'd control myself and give it "B+".......I anticipate "A"s will follow. ....for what it's worth, gang... Chuck Dobrovolny
