Spreaking for the "Lustbusters!" issue, has anyone else noticed the definitive references to George Harriman's Krazy Kat within the speech of the robot dog as he carries off Raoul? I began to suspect something as the spelling got more and more phonetically discombobulated; by the time we got references to "kop" and "brick", I was no longer in doubt. I can't say I find this issue as visually compelling or tight as previous ones, but the high and sustained density of puns and cross-references to previous comics and cartoons (Daddy Fleshbucks, Miss Little, Pornjob...) is nicely done. By the way, I finally decided I did want to have all the Crisis of Infinite Continuity Problems series ... a random walk through about half a dozen local comics stores took care of this, but (1) prices of the earlier issues are rising, (2) In some stores, issues as far back as #4 were still available on the racks, elsewhere, bagged and higher priced as late as #6, (3) Prices vary -- In on place, issues 1 and 2 were $5 and $4 respectively, while I ended up paying $1.75 and $1.25. Reading the background text pages makes it clear this is NOT a trivial or hasty effort; they did do their homework. Even so, it seems that some of the characters are getting disproportionate play in the main books -- and I agree, I wish they hadn't killed Kara, they should have repatriated her to New Krypton; and why couldn't they leave Barry Allen alone after jerking him around for so long. Oh well, the Beyonder can always undo it if need be ("My Secret War's no secret any more..."). -- Daniel Dern ("Machina Sapiens Pro Avia") ARPA: ddern@bbn.arpa USENET (I think): ...!decvax!bbncca!ddern U.S.SNAIL: Daniel Dern, PO Box 114, Belmont MA 02178
