[net.comics] Quick bet

moriarty@fluke.UUCP (The Napoleon of Crime) (09/20/85)

Just noticed that "'Mazing Man's two married friends" are named Brenda and
Eddie. How much you want to bet that they're named after the characters in
Billy Joel's excellent song "Scenes from an Italian Resteraunt", off of his
"Strangers" album? If anyone runs into Rokazis at a convention, I'd
appreciate someone asking him.

No takers, eh? Gutless wimps... :-)

detector for leading you to your
                doom!"
                                                  "Thanks!"

I have, and they are. (Of course, since Bob lives on Lawn Guyland,
prime Billy Joel country...)

Along the same lines, I seem to recall an X-Men in years past (160s?) that had
in a crowd scene a bearded reporter named Rick hollering to a blonde, older
woman named "Joanie" -- Doonsebury creeps into everything !! :-)

If my memory serves me correctly, this took place in some story where
the X-men were in Washington, D. C. ( logical, since that's where the
Redferns live, as I recall ). It was probably in X-MEN 242.

And in John Byrne's Fantastic Four we have the Macy's thanksgiving parade
with a blimp of Skywise, a scene where the Human Torch watches a rehersal
of a play based on elfquest (#3?), and the nightcrawler mini-series has
little petalwing-preserver types named Pini's (The Pini's put out elfqest)
as well as the occasional appearance of elfquest t-shirts on marvel charachters.

Like rock and roll, comics tends to be an art form where self adulation is
encouraged.
