Some interesting items: CEREBUS #79 Was this one late or what? I was getting desperate, after Zot! and Aztec Ace got cancelled. But there are probably enough Cerebus junkies like me out there to keep this one going for awhile :-). After the baroque excesses of Odd Transformations (which I enjoyed) it's a relief to see more conventional(?) dialogue and action again. The Lord Julius "like-a-looks" popping out of the wall were classic Cerebus-slapstick. How far can Cerebus' personal life disintegrate before the end of the world? (only 4 days to go now, kids!) BTW, who is the little farmer guy (sorry, I'm still many, many issues short of owning the complete Cerebus)? I HAVE to know..... MR. X #5 While I agree with Jeff that Mr. X has lost a lot of its unique look after the departure of the Hernandez brothers, I still enjoyed this one, with Dean Motter piling on the red herrings and false identities. So is Mr. X Walter Eichmann or Pierre Radiquet or neither? Is Eichmann dead? Is Radiquet dead? Who actually died? Ugh... Anyway, is this Klaus Schonefeld who does the coloring a real person? Even the coloring looks different from the first four issues, with lighter shades and more pastels in place of the earlier merciless blacks with tiny dots of light. If you read Comics Journal #101, there was a short interview with the Hernandez brothers on why they quit Mr. X. Apparently, it had nothing to do with Love and Rockets taking up too much time. What was not mentioned in the editorial of Mr. X #4 was that the brothers were not getting paid all the money they were promised. It's too bad the bros. did such a magnificent job and got screwed instead. Just saw the ads for St. Mark's Comics (NY) in the Village Voice. They reproduced covers of Mr. X #5, Post brothers (I think) and Love and Rockets with a nice blurb (something like comics are not just for kids). A long time ago the Voice even had a nice survey article on the comics scene (I think Dave Sim was mentioned). Most of the articles on comics appearing in "mainstream" periodicals that I've seen still portray comics as kiddie entertainment, but the Voice article was fairly intelligent and informed. Mr. Hsut mentioned Post Brothers. I really like Matt Howarth (I have a great "Bob" story he did in the SubGenius journal "The Stark Fist of Removal", and the "Anti-Chair", and of course "Changes" from Heavy Metal), and I still haven't seen Post Brothers #2. It's been listed as an available back issue in the Vortex ad in CBG for months. Has anyone seen a copy of this comic? Should I just call Vortex and see what's up? Brad, do you know what's going on? -=- Tim Maroney, CMU Center for Art and Technology tim@k.cs.cmu.edu uucp: {seismo,decwrl,etc.}!k.cs.cmu.edu!tim CompuServe: 74176,1360 Once it ruled the Earth; now it delivers pizza.
