[net.comics] little plastic bags and Acts of God

I keep my comics in little plastic bags, folded shut at the top but
not sealed. (Except for my double copies of LOVE & ROCKETS: those
are sealed in anticipation of the day I read my first ones to death.)
A couple of days ago an aquarium (a BIG one) in the apartment overhead
blew up and the leakage found its way through my ceiling. Guess where
it landed?
As I said, the comics were in plastic bags... AND in boxes. Not one
of them sustained water damage of any description. Thank God for those
little plastic bags. When the bags aren't taped shut, taking one out
of the bag is no more trouble than picking up an unsealed one. If it
sounds like too much trouble, then you got problems! And who knows
when the next aquarium will blow up?
So, YES, little plastic bags are worth it! It doesn't mean I'm some
sort of never-read-them fetishist, but it does mean that my ZOT!s
weren't turned into mulch.
End of confession.
