[Nobody can refuse recognition!!!] I am quickly getting disillusioned with WaRP graphics. I really rooted for them as a young and upcoming independent and loved the Elfquest story and bought the color books as soon as they came out, feeling the glossy prints did justice to the art. I felt like part of the Elfquest family since fan support was greatly appreciated and rewarded with letter pages, Yearnings (a publication of fan written stories) and a fan club. But now, the fan club newsletter is less frequent, and practically uninformative. In earlier issues, they (Richard and Wendy Pini) discussed progress in an earlier attempt to get an Elfquest movie. In _The_Gatherum_, animator Charles Haskett's preliminary sketches are shown side by side with Wendy's corrections. The proportions and details of costume were all wrong, thus proving that the characters are not easily reproduced by other artists. Anyway, earlier attempts at an animated movie flopped. Earlier attempts at a daily and Sunday comic strip were dropped. WHO IS DOING THE ANIMATION, and with what fidelity to the style, let alone the story? If the Pinis found someone they were confortable with, why not announce it to all their faithful fans with a newsletter and share the enthusiasm? My enthusiasm is dying, maybe because theirs is too. WaRP is now a formitable force, with many titles coming out. Many of which I couldn't care less about. It's no longer a family business. It's now big business. They claim that repackaging Elfquest for Marvel was to reach a bigger audience. I've seen the Marvel editions and prefer the WaRP way of first Black-and-white and color only if done right. The Marvel comic colors are low resolution. It doesn't do justice to the artwork. I saw Wendy Pini's portfolio at a Creation con many years ago and was impressed. The Elfquest books barely do it justice. The Marvel editions give no hint that real artwork was the source material. Dost thou harbor suspicions of their 'selling out'. Can you say 'money talks'. I knew someone could. Well, it was nice while it lasted and I am glad to have enjoyed the beginnings of the WaRP empire, but the fun seems to have ended for me. ----- Jeff Skot {ihnp4 | decvax ...} attunix ! jeffj ***** The dead tribble sketch ***** customer to Cyrano Jones: "I'd like to complain about this tribble that I bought at this very boutique about half an hour ago" Jones: "What's wrong with it" customer: "What's wrong with it?
