Except that Harlan Ellison is supposed to be writing a Wally Wood (*not*
Kid Flash) mini-series. I suspect that KF is not terminally ill, but just
losing his powers.

Well, both in the fan press and in the text piece in CRISIS #1, Marv Wolfman
*insists* that (1) he has carte blanche to kill off whomever he wants (subject
to the approval of Jeanette Kahn and Dick Giordano), (2) that major characters
will get killed off as well as minor characters, and (3) that even Superman
won't escape unscathed.

Now, it's true that I am skeptical of any top-selling title being cancelled
because the character is killed off in CRISIS. Currently, though, DC only
*really* big sellers are team books (and the team line-ups aren't sacrosanct)
and the Superman books (and he won't get killed off, for sure --- changed,
maybe, but not killed off). Even BATMAN and DETECTIVE COMICS are selling under
100,000 copies a month.

As far as licensed characters go, the only *real* biggies in that department
are Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, and since each of those has two
versions, one can be eliminated in favor of the other. Wonder Woman, especially
has been a thorn in DC's side because she is a valuable licensing product, but
the sales of her comic suck. They probably would've cancelled it (and the
Batman titles) if the licensing wasn't so important. Now, they may have finally
decided that if Roy Thomas has the Golden Age WW appeared occasionally in ALL
STAR SQUADRON, and with Bats in BATMAN $ THE OUTSIDERS, they can afford to
cancel those books. Who can tell at this point?

I couldn't begin to guess at what *changes* may be made, though I've outlined a
possible change in Batman in another message, which also briefly mentions a
possible change in the Superman mythos. Another possible change in Superman
that I could imagine is that his powers could change slightly, or that he will
be made a little less omnipotent.*

[* Look at it this way: according to the MARVEL HANDBOOK, Thor can lift around
95 tons, the Hulk and Hercules around 100. I can't imagine that Superman is
any stronger than any of those characters, and yet I also can't imagine him
being able to lift only 100 tons.]

This, I think, is one of the wonderful things about CRISIS. Unlike SECRET WARS,
where (1) we knew what changes were going to be made before they were made, and
(2) they ended up not being permanent, we won't know what is going to happen in
CRISIS until it happens, and, most of all, they're going to be *permanent*.

This contains some comments on CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS #4. There may be
some spoilers, so if you haven't read COIE #4 and don't want it spoiled for
you, pass on by.

Well, this is the big one. Wolfman did it. Everything's gone --- Earth-X,
Earth-S, Earth-1, Earth-2, the whole she-bang.

Comments:

(1) Due to Gorge Perez's magnificent art, this is the first time I can recall
that Kara hasn't looked utterly stupid in her newest costume. Plus,
the characterization of both Supergirl and Batgirl were really nice.
Wolfman gave them the same sense of close friendship as Superman/Batman
and Power Girl/Huntress have had. Anotehr first, as far as I know.

(2) Rats! When I got to the end of page 3 and caught the mention of "John
Constantine", I thought that I was very cleverly noticing an obscure
reference to the impending storyline in SWAMP THING (it helped that I
read the latest ST just before this). I wondered how many people would
catch this. Then, at the top of the next page, Swamp Thing is mentioned
for all to notice. I wonder if what is being expected in SWAMP THING is
a manifestation of what's happening in CRISIS (is "he" Pariah? The
Monitor? The Adversary that's behind the Crisis?).

(3) Earth-6, eh? I wonder if Wolfman came up with this Earth and its heroes
only to wipe it out. Will Lord Volt or Lady Quark be around after the
Crisis is over? Of course, it just occurred to me that maybe some of
the characters from Earth-3 *aren't* gone forever!

(4) The new Dr. Light appears. Not too shabby. Will she end up being a hero?
A villain? I don't suppose it really matters. Anything is bound to be
an improvement over the old Dr. Light.

(5) The shot of Superman floating in the sky on page 16 really strikes my
	fancy.

(6) Last but not least, a speculation. It didn't occur to me until I saw one
of the letters in the lettercol, but could there be more significance
than one might at first think to the fact that the "origin" of the
Luthor child from Earth-3 parallels that of Superman? Nah, can't be.
Wolfman couldn't. Wolfman wouldn't. Could DC *really* have the guts to
make *that* much of change in Superman? Aaaaarrrrggghhhhhh!!!!! The
suspense is going to kill me!

*** REPLACE THIS LINE WITH YOUR CAPTAIN MARVEL DEATH DEALING BLASTER ***

Not only is Supergirl no longer among the living, but it also seems
that the Huntress and Earth 2 Robin will bite it in the last issue
of Crisis. Kole (from the Teen Titans) will also give her life
to save to world. Will anyone survive?

Also, a friend tells me that the New Mutants die in Secret Wars.
Yeah!!!!! I can't express my grief enough at this marvelous event
Maybe they will stay dead forever (unlike Jean Grey, God rest her
     mutant soul (ha ha)).

Is there anyone else out there who hates Marvel as much as I do?
I dare them to make their presence known to mankind.

This is apparently due to a slip up in Who's Who #n, which came out before
the Crisis #12. Oops.

The above information is available in DC's Who's Who book. I'm
susprised that it appeared before Crisis #12 came out. The entry of the
Flash was printed before his death and did not include the fact that he
would die. If they do kill the Huntress, I'm sure Power Girl must get
it as well.

I think DC could have done a great deal with the Huntress and
Power Girl. The interaction between the Huntress and Batman of Earth I
would have really been interesting. The same is true with Power Girl
and Superman. Their appearances helped flesh out Infinity, Inc. I'll
be very annoyed with DC if this indeed happens. Please, kill off the
new JLA if you must; kill Kole; send Jonni Thunder into a black hole
or run over Hawkman of Earth II -- I don't care -- but leave the Huntress
and Power Girl alone!

Obviously, since the name was on the article under the From
heading, I thought it silly to restate what was already
	 apparent.

At least you admit that Secret Wars was a crock. I concur.
But after reading a multitude of other Marvel titles, I
found that Daredevil was the only one to keep my attention.
Well, so does X-Factor, but only because of its stupidity.

The psuedo-intellectual garbage Marvel (and sometimes D.C.)
push upon its readers is incredible. The issues are silly -
I don't care about mutants, and neither do most 9 year-old
kids. If I want philosophy I'll read a novel, when I want
to be entertained I'll read Ambush Bug. But if I am
forced to chose between two types of psuedo intellectual
	 garbage, then I'll chose D.C.

Sorry for the flames, but someone had to say these things.

I don't believe that anything happens to Power Girl, but the death
of the Huntress is bad enough. I remember when I would buy
Wonder Woman just to read the Huntress. And the Earth 2 Robin's
demise is also terrible - his costume is better than the Earth 1
version. Oh well. At least Kole, Supergirl, Flash, Robin, and
the Huntress will stay dead ( i hope ). No Dark (fill in the
blanks). And after the Beyonder resurrects the New Mutants and
the Avengers, maybe he'll do the Huntress for us. But then I
would have no respect for D.C.

	I hope this doesn't sound like I'm ragging on you (I don't
mean to, this time), but I couldn't find your name anywhere
in the heading or in the article (not that it really matters).
It just that I think if someone is going to critcize something
I think that they should back it up. (And by using just your
"handle" and no other ID, it appeared that you weren't.

Well, enough of this. This is net.comics, not net.dump_on_each_other.

As for this buisness about Jean Grey, I really think the
people on this network are making too big of a deal about it.
Let's face it, if it was someone like Nova coming back, no one
would care (except that they killed him off for a reason, he
sucked). But the people who are really complaining are the ones
that say they loved her and her character. If that's true, then
they should be happy that she's back. Personally, I'd give
anything if something could bring back my mother in better
health than she was before she got sick and died. And I'm
sure some of you feel the same way about some loved one too.
Besides, like some previous articles said, who knows if this
is the real Jean. Don't forget the legend of the Phoenix! And
who knows, she may die again (by popular demand).

Finally, I have a suggestion for all of you out there who
want to tell the companies how you feel about their poor
quality comics, but still want a chance to read them.
Find a friend or someone you know that has bought the comic
that you think is bad (ie: X-Factor) and read it to confirm
your opinion. If you are truly disgusted with it, then you
haven't given the company a cent. But to make up for the money
you feel your friend has wasted, write some hate mail to
them expressing your feelings. You really don't have to have
a friend buy it (just read it at your local store), or even
read it at all. Just let Marvel or DC or whoever, know that
you don't like what they're doing!!!!! I think wasting 22 cents
on a stamp is a hell of a lot better than 75*n cents on poor
	comics.

					Gregory L. Wing

P.S. If a useless article got posted by me (about 2 articles ago),
sorry about that. I kind of screwed up. I'm new to this net

I was very amused to note on the most recent issue of Dazzler,

		BECAUSE YOU DEMANDED IT!
		 Dazzler's Last Issue!

It took five years for them to realize their mistake, but they
at last did. Now we can only hope she'll marry the Beyonder,
and they'll both die and put themselves out of our misery.

Despite my addiction to mutants, I'm not buying any more issues
of X-Factor. From the brief glance I saw of #2 in the comic store,
those of us not getting it don't seem to be missing anything.

Don't blame posters if your software can't deal with the accepted formats
for messages. (I'm tired of seeing Orphaned Response as a subject!)

Seems like the 'turkey' here is either the author of notesfiles (for not
updating the software) or those who keep using it when better and more robust
tools are available. Note that I use an editor, but I don't make any special
effort to delete 'garbage' lines, as they are inserted by the posting software
after I compose my message. Notesfiles sites might end up having to build
their own network if the keep using software that is inconsistent with the
current versions and protocols.
