[net.comics] Where is Crisis #12

ralphw@ius2.cs.cmu.edu (Ralph Hyre) (11/26/85)

I'm was told Friday the 22nd that it should have been in two weeks ago.
What gives? Any facts or juicy rumors? Did Wolfman want to kill Superman
or something?

I got CRISIS ON INFINTE EARTHS #12 yesterday (11/29/85).
Shipment was delayed a week.
It ties everything up, but I won't say anything more.

Mike, what do you mean it ties everything up? What happened to Wonder
Woman? Are they just giving themselves a way to rewrite her origin? What
about the two remaining duplicates, Green Lantern and the Flash? Not to
mention whatever GL's daughter is called; where does she fit in? How does
this fit together with Green Lantern 198, which seems to end in a way
incompatible with Crisis? Who is Power Girl now? And so on, and so on.
Seems to me there were a lot of loose ends left dangling.

Overall, the series was fun; but I really wish Wolfman had bothered to read
some time travel stories first to get some idea of how meta-temporal
phenomena might work. The glitches with the time travel and inter-time
contact really detracted in my eyes; this was straight out of Star Trek and
the Superman movie. To cite the worse example, what was this baloney with
people seeing the anti-Monitor zipping back through time? He would be
visible in all instants; there would be no perception of him coming and
going from the perspective of someone going forward in time.

As you probably know by now, Wolfman did indeed "kill" Superman
(The one from Earth-...oh gee, what did I mean?...of course there
can't be more than one Earth, can there?...the one without a...
HOME, that's it!) as well as Superboy and Luthor. But wait a minute.
How can both SuperBOY *and* SuperMAN be killed at the same time?
And I can't believe they'd kill off Luthor--what will Superman do
for an adversary?...Superman? But how can he be around if he's been
killed? I'm SOOOOOOO confused. I think I'll run out and buy Secret
Wars instead. THAT I can understand. :-) :-) :-) :-)

Seriously, does anyone want to take bets that "Flash" will be re-united
with the Titans now that he wants to play superhero again? Especially
since the group needs a good dose of guilt ("Think of all those that
will perish if we don't keep helping them--that's what Uncle Barry would
do.") to keep them from falling apart with apathy and self-centeredness.
Come to think of it, the Raven subplot *IS* heating up....

They certainly did not kill Superman - 2, Superboy, Lois Lane,
or Alex Luthor - they are on a planet better than earth. The
Superman/Superboy question is easy - they are not the same
person - read DC Presents for the whole story.

The Luthor which you are talking about was the Earth-2 version -
since the Earth-2 Superman is in paradise he doesn't need an
     adversary.

There is a rumor that a new Flash comic is in the works - with
Wally West and Jay Garrick starring. I hope he doesn't rejoin
the Titans - they have enough problems with Starfire, Mento,
and Raven. Not to mention the unwillingness of Nightwing
     to be leader.
