Well, I'll bet you're all as busy as me (if not busier), but I wanted to do something that I've done for the last three years on net.comics -- thank all of you for making this one of the most civilized, informative and enjoyable newsgroups on the net. In a year which has seen rampant hostility and net mis-use to the point of cancelling several newsgroups (net.flame in particular), it has been a pleasure to note that net.comics rarely features arguments -- discussion has always been the watchword of this group, with enthusiasm and humor as foundations. "Rn" always places net.comics first in my list of newsgroups to read, due to the fact that it almost always the most enjoyable. Obviously, it's my favorite -- I put more time into it via Moriarty Reviews and other egotistic ramblings -- but this is due to the fact that I get more from it than I put into it. Besides, net.comics has always had a feeling of community -- I identify people behind user IDs, names behind styles of writing; and it strikes me that it's a pretty good group. In particular, thanks to: -- Jerry Boyajian, who, despite an increasing workload, has found time to answer almost every question posted on net.comics, and also post reviews and comments so impartial and (to my mind) fair that I often miss his eloquence. I'm glad someone else is doing new comics reviews besides me, and I'm VERY glad it's Jerry. I mean, someone's gotta tell *ME* what I'm missing! -- Laurie Sefton, for posting some of the most humorous and incisive views on new comics around. -- Ellen Eades, who, besides proving "It's A Small World After All" is often true (in my case), has been feeding her (and our) views of comics to Marvel. And it would seem that they're listening... Someday, we're going to have to meet face-to-face... -- Henry Vogel, for taking time out from his busy publishing schedule to write about the details inherint in publishing comics, and for participating in the discussions. -- To whoever posted those hilarious take-off reviews and Beyonder parodies that came across about a month or two ago. I haven't laughed that hard since "Fandom Confidential" disappeared... -- Bill, Stuart, Mike, Oz, Scott, Carl (both of them!), Henry, Hutch, Soren, and Bob: all people who deserve more than one line or one name, but my lunch break is almost over... Folks, thank you for consistently posting good comics news information, interesting points of view, and keeping discussions alive with your varied ideas and opinions. -- Finally, to anyone who has posted a note to net.comics over the last year and isn't on the list above -- thanks for keeping this one of the few quality newsgroups. When someone asks me to point to a good example of what Usenet can accomplish, I often point to net.comics. As a source of information and a forum for discussion, it shows what a special interest group bulletin board system can do when people are polite, enthusiastic and helpful. And you are the people responsible for this. I hope that the quality of this group continues through the next year -- it certainly has for the last three. I probably won't be posting as much as I usually do, due to outside demands for time; but I look forward to another year of stimulating conversation. Oh, and before I forget -- Happy Holidays! (Suitably generic, but I'm an agnostic, after all...) "And I heard Jeff exclaim, as they strolled out of sight, `Merry Christmas to all -- you take credit cards, right?'"
