Here are my opinions on the events of the last year(s) in comments- actually the comics I've read this last year. Hope for some commentary on my commentary. SECRET WARS II- Not as bad as has been said, NOT GOOD of course. Had some bright spots and had some potential. It could have been a humorous-satire sort of thing, and some aspects were in that direction It also could have been a well done exploration of ultimate power though that would be hard to say anything new about. I wish I could say that it tried to be both and ended up being neither. Actually, it didn't even really try. But it was unsettling laughting at a molecule man sequence in one panel and seeing someone really die in the next. GOOD POINTS- 1) I really liked the molecule man in this series. Having him balance a very normal life with really cosmic power was amusing e.g. playing trival pursuit and wondering about the fate of the universe, steping into his kitchen for a word with some gods. This is GOOD whimsical stuff, and I really liked it 2) The issure where he gives daredevil his sight was good. The Beyonder was woven well into the story and the story had a point 3) Beyonder vs. the Gods, seeing Mephisto annoyed at having to be honest with everyone, was nice. Also, seeing what mephisto tried to do to the beyonder in the last issue was chilling. BAD POINTS- 1) God out of a box- when he appeared in another story out of the blue it was a bad story. Include the Avengers, and the FF story as being ruined by him (I think Moriariy disagrees about him ruining the FF story where a small child lights himself on fire to emulate the human torch.) 2) Boring plot line with nothing ending- he wonders around thinking about life for NINE issues. Ending was ridiculous and pointless. 3) The issues where he is attacked by heroes for no good reason were out of character for the heroes 4) (a hold over from SW I)- Characters act without any motive, and acting inconsistely . Why did Racheal Hate the Beyonder so much? Why did they sometimes try to reason with him and sometimes not. How come Daredevil is never included in these cosmic battles? (This is not a complaint, but it does seem odd) 5) etc. CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS: I don't really know enough about the DC universe to comment that much, but I am happy to see real changes being made. It seems that only recently have characters changed at all. One objection- I would have hoped the upcoming changes in superman would have been a result of the crisis in an obvious way, and not just a ``Well, THIS is what happened'' JEAN GRAY: Bringing her back is just not a good idea, as it cheapens death in general. Still, if X-factor turns out to be a great comic then it would have been justified. Does anyone know WHY they decided to bring her back, and what the excuse for the Watcher not knowing that it wasn't really her on the moon is. To be continued bill gasarch@maryland
