The following is a DC Comics news release I received February 6, 1986. BLUE BEETLE EXTERMINATES FOES IN NEW SERIES FIRST CHARLTON COMICS CHARACTER TO APPEAR IN ONGOING DC COMICS TITLE "This is one of those rare occasions where the consumer has actually demanded that we publish a particular book," notes Len Wein, writer of the new ongoing series BLUE BEETLE. "Reader reaction to Blue Beetle's appearance in the CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS series was so strong that we rushed to get a Blue Beetle series started." DC Comics acquired many Charlton Comics heroes when Charlton ceased publishing in 1985. Blue Beetle is the first to see print on an on- going basis from DC Comics. Blue Beetle's origin appearedd in Jan- uary, 1986, in SECRET ORIGINS #2. In February, the BLUE BEETLE monthly series will debut with the popular hero coming out of retirement. "I'm having more fun than I've had in years," smiles Wein. "BLUE BEETLE is a good, classic super-hero comic. It's humor that doesn't make fun of itself. Blue Beetle is the kind of super-hero you don't get enough of anymore." There will be a completely new cast of characters in the series. "We threw out the couple of supporting characters from the Charlton comic and are starting with a whole new cast. There will be more characters in BLUE BEETLE than in 'Dallas.' And everything counts in this book. Nothing that ever happens in unimportant." According to Len, penciller Paris Cullins "thinks he's done his best work ever. I agree. Everyone who has seen the first issue agrees." BLUE BEETLE is written by Len Wein, pencilled by Paris Cullins, and inked by Bruce Patterson. Early issues are edited by Julius Schwartz. Beginning with issue #5, Karen Berger takes over as the series editor. Issue #1 ships on February 18, 1986, bears a June cover date, and sells for 75 cents at both newsstands and in specialty stores. --Steve Richter USENET: {ihnp4,allegra!cbosgd}!okstate!uokvax!uok!slrichte USMAIL: S.
