I actually thought one of the nicest little one-panel pieces of the first
Dark Knight book was that after 20+ years (I don't *think* the matter was
ever brought up earlier), we *finally* have a rational explanation for
why Batman's costume includes a bright-yellow symbol that must practically
glow in the dark! <Bang!> <Thump!> "The plate holds... Why do you *think*
I wear a target on my chest? Can't armor my head..."
(I haven't been following DC much in recent years; if this wasn't Miller's
idea, I'd be interested to know who first thought of it.)
