Has anyone out there successfully grown garlic? I planted a row last spring from cloves and most of it came up. However by late fall the bulbs were still very tiny. I left it in the ground and am giving it another year. I don't know what would have happened to it if we had had any hard frosts over the winter but we didn't and it is u and healthy looking now (just not much garlic at the bulb end). Advise would be appreciated. Jack Gjovaag Tek Labs

I have grown garlic in San Diego at least twice. Planting involved notrhing more than breaking the mother into cloves and planting them in rich soil. Like onions, garlic should never thirst for water. They probably need a period of long days in which to bulbm (some onions need 14 hour days). When the tops droop, the garlic is ready but should be left in the ground to season. When harvested, garlic tops can be braided for an attractive storage technique.
