I am interested in starting a set of blue spruce seedlings. However, I'm at a loss as to the best way to accomplish this. I have heard rumors that seedlings could be started by usig cuttings from existing trees, but I would like a confirmation. A number of associated questions have come up: 1. What is the best medium for starting these cuttings? 2. Is there a "good" time of year and/or a "bad" time of year to make the cuttings? 3. Is any part of a branch better than another; above a joint perhaps, or just below one? If cuttings are not a good way to start seedlings, what technique should be followed? I don't ever recall seeing pine cones on spruce trees, but I imagine one could start with their seeds. Any thoughts?
