This summer I tried to grow luffas for the first time, without much success. Can anyone out there give me a clue as to what I did wrong? I planted the seeds in early June (as I recall), about the same time I put in the watermelon seeds, cukes and so on. Everything else grew great guns, but the luffas didn't even grow decent vines until September, and the two luffas that finally did show up never had a chance to get mature enough for sponges before the frost came. I am interested in trying again next year, but would hope for better success. Can luffas be started indoors and transplanted? Thanks in advance for advice. By the way I live in Rochester, NY and early June is as early as you can put in tender plants. Margaret Reek seismo!rochester!ritcv!mmr
