[net.garden] crickets

budd@arizona.UUCP (10/25/83)

This really belong in net.house_pests, were there such a group. Anyway...

Does anybody know any safe, nontoxic way to get rid of crickets?? I know
the chinese think they bring you good luck, but all they seem to be bringing
me is more crickets. The kids playroom seems to be their favorite place,
so the safe nontoxic part is a must.

I have seen these ultrasonic sound generators in the stores, but even the
advertisement on the boxes waffles about effectiveness, and if the ADS
waffle- well then - I have my doubts. Anybody tried these things (before
I waste my forty dollars, see if anybody else has wasted theirs first).

My office partner has tried the ultrasonic device to get rid of ants &
has told me it didn't do ANYTHING (except cost forty dollars). He would
not recommend it. Unfortunately, I can offer no alternatives except bug bombs,
but those are inconvenient and you have to evacuate the house for a few hours.
I don't know if that would be good in a playroom, but I suspect not.

P.S. You might try posting to net.general; you may get more response.

I have tried the Ultra sonic pest boxes. We had a bad case of fleas.
(this being Oregon and the winter didn't get cold enough to kill them, and
the cat kept bringing them in) We put the box in the bedroom, and have
had few problems with fleas.

You need to be careful in that if the box is poorly adjusted you get
headacks and the animals in the house will climb the walls to get out.

After sending ours back, we got prompt service and it seems to work well
now.
