[net.garden] self-watering plants

beth@umcp-cs.UUCP (11/21/83)

As I make plans to go away for Thanksgiving, I once again realize that
my plants will need tending by a friend. Does anyone know of a very
inexpensive but reliable method for watering plants while you are away?
I have indoor tomato plants that can't go more than three days without
a drink. I tried putting one in the tub with water dripping into its
pot, but it was overwatered and dropped a lot of leaves and blossoms.
Two of them are really too big to move out of the window. I'm getting
tired of imposing on friends, and I'm sure the friends are too. Does
anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
