< I planted twelve Crown Imperials last fall, scattered around the perimeter of my bed of Tulips(Dutch Mole language for "Boy, oh, boy, DINNER!"), daffs, and assorted annuals. One of them is already blooming, but the recent rain in Portland is keeping any odor, and the moles, from showing up. If anyone is interested, I'll keep everyone posted as to how well the Crown Imperials keep the moles (and hopefully the local unleashed dogs) out of the tulips. The first thing I've noticed, is that the Crown Imperials need to be staked, since the merest brush of dog or wind breaks their stems unless they have some support(their stems are much like those of the larger dahlias.)
