Please, stop this discussion on the Sears regular lawn mowers. Of course Sears can make a good lawn mower since a lawn mower is really nothing more than a motor (usually a Briggs & Stranton). So what you people are really saying is that Briggs & Stranton makes a good motor. It does not necessarily have to be on a Sears body (no moving parts). Lets get back to the original subject of Sears LAWN TRACTORs!!!! Lawn tractors are definitely more complex machines and, therefore, more can go wrong with them. You have things like belts, pulleys, transmission, lights, battery and starters to contend with besides the motor. So the question boils down to: Can Sears make a good lawn tractor??? I say NO!!! My poor next door neighbor bought a Sears lawn tractor this winter. First he tried to push some snow with it. The belts on the transmission kept on slipping off or breaking. Each time having the Sears repairman come and fix it. He never did get to push the snow. Now its time to cut the lawn. He can't keep the belts on or keep the mower deck aligned. He has tried for over a month to cut more than three feet of lawn!!! Also he can't keep the battery charged for more than a week. I have told him he should demand his money back but the Sears repairmen keep on telling him to wait a little longer. Well, he is still waiting to cut his lawn. I have another neighbor who also tried the Sears lawn tractor. He had the same types of problems and took his back right away. He still has not looked for another tractor. I was looking for a lawn tractor earlier this year and every dealer of other tractors had nothing good to say about the Sears tractor. I bought a workhorse and it works fine. John Schantz BCR
