I live in Aberdeen, NJ near Holmdel. Last fall, I hired someone to thtch and seed. He ripped me off. I Am hand thatching dead spots now a little each day - actually very relaxing & good excercise - but I don't know what to do with the bald spots at this time of year. Whole center of my backyard - Chemlawn told me thatcher planted cheap rye grass while most of lawn is bluegrass - is bald. I am totally frustrated. Have hired lawn doctor one tear, chemlawn , college kids, charming old men , garden services - seems like I.m throwing my money away. I haven't seen any advertisements for miracle zoysa grass this year - although I'm willing to try it. Advice is welcome - PLEASE! Judah

In general free advice is worth what it costs but one exception seems to be the friendly folk at your local county agricultural service (Freehold, NJ for people in Monmouth, New Brunswick, for Middlesex, etc.) The NJ service has a whole array of info on starting and keeping a lawn going including recommended varieties for NJ conditions.
