<> I recommend Lawn-Boy Lawn mowers. Over the years, we haved owned about 5 or 6 of them, and all but 1 is still going strong. The one that finally gave up we bought in 1961, and it was used to cut several other yards other than my own. I like the 2-cycle engines. They seem to be able to tolerate a lot of abuse and still keep going. As long as you remember to mix the correct amount and type of oil with the gasoline, the engine itself will outlast the rest of the mower, including the housing! I also feel that the 2-cycle engine is quieter than most 4-cycle engines, and for some reason, I find that the exhaust of the 2-cycle engine to be less irritating to my nose than 4-cycle engines. Furthermore, the 2-cycle engine on the Lawn-Boy is considerable lighter in weight than the mowers with 4-cycle engines. The only negative points about Lawn-Boy mowers I have found is that they tend to have a difficult time making it through tall, wet grass. The engine has plenty of torque, due to the design of the 2-cycle engine, but the grass tends to get clogged up easily, especially when using a catcher. Also, on the newer models of Lawn-Boys, the plastic parts tend to break more easiler than the metal parts used on the earlier models. To summarize, here are the advantages and disadvantages: 1) Lighter weight 2) Quieter Operation 3) Less maintenance (no oil changes required) 4) Greater durability 5) More torque than 4-cycle engines 1) Plastic Parts on newer models tend to break easily 2) clogging tends to occur in tall wet grass.
