Negative!  I've run about 200K bits per second over an RS232C interface.
It is not uncommon to run 56K bits per second.  If John Labovitz' CPM
machine's serial port can run with external clocks, it is entirely feasable
it could drive a MIDI @ 30K bps.  I'm not real familiar with MIDI.
Is it spec'd as Asynchronous or Synchronous?  What voltage/current levels
are utilized?
