You can finally see spring around the corner so it must be time to think about spring shopping. I'm looking for some out of the ordinary houseplants that will get along fine without much attention. This does not mean that they will necessarily be left to parch at every opportunity nor that I can't provide adequate light or humidity. The problem comes from a working schedule that takes me away a week at a time. With sufficient humidity and lower light I have managed to keep some houseplant standards with no problems over such trips, e.g. asparagus, chlorophytum, coleus, begonia, platycerium and so on. Some more exotic plants get by quite well too, e.g. orchids and tillandsia. Succulents, of course, don't care, and we get along just fine. I'm trying to expand my indoor garden and this year the agenda is to work on the exotic side. I'd like to ask your help in constructing a shopping list of exotics that can use occasional neglect. I'd very much appreciate descriptions that contain common names, botanical names, physical description, requirements for cultivation and special tips. I'll post a compilation of responses. Thanks.
