The method that I've been using for starting seeds (good for small scale gardeners like myself) is the Jiffy-7 expandable peat pots ($7 per hundred), in an old aquarium. I set the aquarium(s) (two of them, about 200 pots) in front of my south facing kitchen window. I've only used this method twice (this is only my third year at attempted gardening), but I was quite pleased with the results last year (my tomato plants were 2 ft tall when they were set in the garden at the end of April). The plants are easy to water, and are protected from drafts (and dogs). Also, I put aluminum foil on the three sides that do not face the window, to keep the plants growing straight. The plants are set in the graden, pot and all, and never have to be transplanted. A small scale (lazy) gardener, Joanne
