He demonstrates many methods of dealing with gophers (I don't know anything about golphers, although golfers have been known to dig holes, technically known as divots).

Have you tried telling them to move on to the next hole? Or maybe waiting by their hole and clobbering them with a golph club? (Just joking folks- no flames from animal lovers!) Seriously, I seem to recall a discussion on the elimination of small pests (gophers, etc.) on the net some time ago. Perhaps someone saved a copy, and could send it to you.

I have tried various means and traps really do the trick best. Often it is a single gopher (in our yard at least) that digs all the mounds. Poison just doesn't work well and it's too dangerous. Gas does nothing at all (referring to a previous net discussion). Traps leave no doubt about the fate of the gopher and often catch it within an hour. Now, there was a great method described a while back that involved sulphur, a blowtorch, and a wheelbarrow. I wish I had the guts to try this one! -- -Mike Klein ...!ucbvax!ucbmerlin:klein (UUCP) klein%ucbmerlin@berkeley (ARPA)

Actually, I've always found that a shotgun will solve problems with Gophers and Golphers. A humane approach that tends not to leave hazardous chemicals around to harm your pets. Maybe trace elements of lead.

I have been hearing the Juicy Fruit Gum kills moles--maybe it works on gophers too! If you wad up a stick of Juicy Fruit and place it in the mole's tunnel he will eat it. The gum clogs up his intestines and he dies. You have to wear gloves while handing the gum though so that there is no human smell on it. I don't know why moles prefer Juicy Fruit but maybe it would make a neat advertising campaign for Wrigley's.

Gophers keep making holes; golphers will stop at 18. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)
