Thanks to all that answered my query about turf grasses & ground covers. I finally decided to try emerald zoysia. After having no luck from any of the major turf farms in California, I was able to order it from Glenn Oaks Turf in Georgia. I cut the sod slabs into plugs and planted them last weekend. Its a beautiful looking grass and, if it grows well, will be the answer to my weed and mowing problems. Weeds, supposedly, won't grow in it and one can *get by* with only one or two mowings per year without having to wade knee-deep in weeds/grass stems. We shall see. I also have a small patch of zoysia tenuifolia (Korean Grass) and another patch of zoysia japonics (Meyer Zoysia). It will be interesting to compare the three. For those of you that suggested ground covers, I did try some potentilla on a hillside. Again, thanks to all who helped. Bob
