[net.garden] Ants in Window Boxes and Planters!

amyola@homxa.UUCP (A.CASADEVALL) (06/26/85)

Help! I don't have red ants or black ants, but I have small
brown ants living in my window boxes (on the porch railings)
and my other large planters. None are directly on the ground.
How can I get rid of the ants without damaging my flowers -
geraniums and impatiens?? I know about Diazenon (sp?) and
moth crystals, but will these harm my plants?

Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

Diazenon won't harm your plants. I have to use the stuff
reqularly to fight carpenter ants around my house (they ate
my sunporch). It seems to work quite well and has not bothered
any plants where I have dosed the ground. Further, it does not
seem to bother the other myriad of insects that tromp imperiously
over the Diaz and into the house.
