[net.garden] Summer Squash for Vertical Growing

rib@cord.UUCP (RI Block) (07/23/85)

Because of the current interest in vertical growing
of vine crops (probably sparked by "Square Foot Gardening"),
I researched my library looking for summer squash varieties
which were suitable for this type of culture.

In the May, 1982 "Organic Gardening", an article on growing
summer squash mentions a variety TATUME which is reputed
to vine (actually all curcabits vine, but bush varieties
have such a short internode spacing, and most do not produce
tendrils so they can't be grown on a fence or trellis).

TATUME is available (according to the article) from:

	Walter Baxter Seed Company
	PO Box 8175
	Weslaco, TX 78596

Disclaimer: I have no relationship to this or any other seed
company. I have not ordered from this company and I have never
grown TATUME.
