[net.garden] Evergreens in the East

jcp@brl-sem.ARPA (Joe Pistritto <jcp>) (08/08/85)

Having just bought a new house, I'm looking for some screen
trees for my backyard. There is some mature deciduous (sp?) forest
back there, but another developer is developing back there so I don't
know how long it will last, hence the need for more screen trees.

I want something fast growing, thats likely to be available in
6-7 foot trees, and that can tolerate quite a bit of shade (some of the
trees will go in the margin at the edge of the forest). I'm willing
to fertilize the hell out of it to make it grow faster if that will help.
The location is Maryland (for all you folks from California, thats the
state north of DC). I've had Eastern White Pine recommended, any other
ideas?
