[net.garden] Egyptian Onions

Does anyone know if egyptian Onions are edible?
I got some from a guy in my department and they
are doing great. He didn't know if they were edible
either. They get a cluster of baby onions on TOP
of the stalk where the flowers were.
You can then plant them and eventually
end up with zillions of these things.

Well, I haven't heard them called Egyptian Onions, but
I've grown something similar, i.e. they grow sets at the top
of the stem, you plant them, you get more, they're totally
hardy, etc... and they make excellant scallions, although they
do get tough and *HOT* when they get old.
