I tried this some time ago on net.garden but got no information. Since the subject of lawn mowers has come up in net.consumers I'm going to try it here: I am curious about the usability and reliability of modular grass whacker type tools. They are modular in the sense that the grass whacker part comes off the bottom and something else (like a bush whacker, a saw, a tiller, etc.) can be fastened there instead. Does anyone have experience with these? The advantage of these, besides the fact that you buy one motor instead of N for each tool, is the ease of moving around the yard -- part of ours is very steep and traditional rolling tools can't be used. I'm particularly interested in how well the tiller attachment works. The ones I've come across are 1) Sears and 2) Green Machine. The Sears model has a rotary cultivator attachment and the Green Machine has one that is sort of like two arms that go back and forth. In both cases one arm cancels out the motion of the other so there should't be a problem holding the thing in the soil. However, I'm wondering how well it works to try to cultivate at such an angle at the end of a stick, and how well it really digs up the soil. Does anyone know about these or any other similar models? Thanks for any info. Margot Flowers Flowers@LOCUS.UCLA.EDU (new style); Flowers@UCLA-CS (old style) ...!{ucbvax|ihnp4}!ucla-cs!flowers (uucp)
